I Visited a Home to Over 400 Monoliths in an African Rainforest.

In the mystery of Monoliths, I journeyed to see over 400 monoliths in an Africa rainforest, these are mysteries with great features like Eyes, Mouth, Nose and Ears with strange designs. After a long search I finally found this massive intricately carved stones dated back to around 250AD still strong and standing.

These series of ancient Stone Monoliths known as Ikom Monoliths are believed to have been created by an ancient civilization.

A lot of people have gotten a conclusion about them to be mysterious as they thought the purpose and Culture that created them remain largely unknown.

Some of these monoliths reach a height of about six feet with detailed information on each.

My Visit to Nkarassi II (Ikom, Nigeria)

It was a long Journey when I Arrived Ikom and had to look for hotel to rest for the morning Journey ahead. I left my hotel room by 9:00am to Nkarassi II where I was told I will find the Ikom Monoliths.

I thought it was a nearby community as I was already in their Local Government Headquarters (Ikom) Lol dey play!

It took me almost three hours to drive from Ikom to this community as we had to pass through over eight communities in the area using the road that leads to Ogoja in Cross River.

I finally knew I was approaching this community with monoliths when I saw a big statue of the Monoliths-happy me.

The Ikom Monoliths are originally consisting of around 400-450 engraved standing stones that are distributed around thirty communities in Ikom.

These stones are thought to be over 1,600 years old and still remain original in their positions.

There are numerous meaning attached to these stones as I heard from the community head of Nkarassi II.

These Stones have been sustained from generation to generation not until modern civilization stepped in from the history I read from the book the Community Chief brought to us about the Ikom Monoliths..

These stones have religious believe attached to them as local community believed them to be responsible for giving fertility, help them in times of war, god of harvest and so many other religious believe are being ascribed to these stones.

These stones are so unique to this tribe and many European Countries have visited and carried the styles of these Monoliths to recreate theirs but these ones here remain the original Monoliths of Ikom.

Though many have been lost due to carelessness and fire.
